Signed by Governor Ricketts on May 5, 2021 and of note to PTAN members is LB616 (Hughes) - Change abandoned motor vehicle provisions

Currently, within 15 days, a tower must notify any lienholder appearing on the certificate of title of the vehicle and the owner once they tow an abandoned vehicle. This bill would require the State Patrol to also follow these guidelines.

Secondly, LB 616 would increase the valuation of an abandoned vehicle from $250.00 to $500.00 for purposes of Nebr. Rev. Stat. 60-1902.

The bill becomes effective 90-days after the end of the Legislative Session, which be approximately September 1, 2021.

The Professional Towing Association of Nebraska (PTAN) was founded in January 1, 1975, as a 501 C (6)trade association representing its members before the Nebraska State Legislature and it’s regulatory agencies, as well as in conjunction with Towing and Recovery Assocaiton of America, Inc. in Washington, DC.
